Another huginafold box. Lilacs and purples are my favourite colours. I used my usual layout. This time I added larger roses to the middle and a beautiful jeweled lilac butterfly. The base layers are cut out form a lilac pearlescent 12"x12"sheet of 250gsm card. I mat and layered the lilac patterned paper onto gold mirri board. I use the same layers on the outside of the box too. I leave the lid plain so it can be decorated to personalise it for whatever occasion it is chosen for.

I tend to make my boxes in sets of 6 at a time. They seem to make up quicker that way, unless of course it is a special request that needs to be made as a one off. A lot of the time I have several finished that could be used for a certain occasion. I try and choose the papers I use with that in mind. The hardest ones are always the ones for men, especially if they don't like football!

If you like what I make and would like to order a box, just send me a mail and I will get in touch and discuss your requirements.

Wedding Box

Well, eventually I've found the time to upload the second of my exploding boxes. This is more specific than the other one - it's a wedding theme. I used 300gsm bright white card for the 3 layers and lid. I then layered very pale pink silk board into a silver mat on the front and backs of the 3 layers and lid. I then used silver peel offs on each of the panels.

I added a bouquet of palest pink and white flowers with a pale pink bow to finish it off. I really must remember to take photos of the lids next time! The lid on this one had a congratulations sentiment and a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses. I also add a card that fits into the box when it is folded up.This has a matching picture on the front and space inside to write a message.

Hopefully over the next few days I will post more photos. I've got 2 huginafold  boxes on order; a golden wedding and a get well. I've just bought some beautiful card and I'm  looking forward to using it.

Butterflies exploding box

I know I said i would write here every day, but to be honest I've not been feeling very creative. I really need to perfect my photo taking skills too. So, I've taken photos of a couple of new boxes I've been working on to share.

This is one of my new butterfly exploding boxes. I used pink card to create the 3 layers of the box. I used a pretty pink rose and bird page from Tildas Flower Garden matted onto gold mirri card to each of the front faces of the box. For the reverse (that you can't actually see here) I used a contrasting green and pink stripe from the same pad.

To finish the inside of the box it off I added a couple of butterflies that were cut out using my Silhoutte machine. The base layer of the butterfly is pink paper and the top layer is vellum. Two pink pearls finish them off. I used acetate to connect the butterflies to the box. This gives them movement as well as a 3D effect. I used pink mulberry roses to fill in the middle, and also to hide the slits that I made to anchor the acetate to the box.

The lid of the box is made from the same pink card. I used panels of the green and pink stripes on the outer sides and top. I will post those later on, when I can work out how to remove the photos that have filled up the memory in my camera! I haven't added a sentiment as yet. This means it can be used for several different occasions.
